Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year I took part in the London 2 Brighton Challenge with my team, the Mindful Misfits, to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity. I signed up for the 100km, but the great heatwave of summer 2018 got the better of me and I was only able to complete 25km. Actually, scrap the 'only'! I walked 25km and I'm bloody proud! However it did leave me feeling that I had some serious unfinished business.

Something else happened this year in that one of my fellow misfits had to defer her challenge. At the time she was gutted that she couldn't take part with the rest of us and I promised her I would be by her side as she crosses the finish line in 2019... and so it shall be.

Knowing that the heat is my arch nemesis and that it could very well happen again next year, I have decided to opt for one of the half challenges. And wanting to be with Lou when she crosses the finish line of her 100km challenge I figured it made sense to sign up for the 2nd half challenge. It also happens to be the shorter half...

While I am only doing the half challenge for the London 2 Brighton, I have decided to take part in a number of other challenges between October 2018 and May 2019 to help me train for the big one and reach that 100km target one way or another.

Saturday 27 October 2018 – Halloween Walk – 15km

Sunday 13 January 2019 – Winter Walk – 20km

Saturday 20 April 2019 – Easter Walk – 25km

Sunday 26 May 2019 – London 2 Brighton 2nd Half Challenge – 44km

Those that are better at arithmetic than me will notice that these four “official” walks total 104km. Come rain or shine (and even snow if 2018 is anything to go by), I will reach my goal of completing these four walks. Can you help me reach my goal to raise £1000 for my chosen charity?

And because apparently I run 10k as well as walk now, I thought why not do a 10k for each month of 2019...

Sunday 27th January - Run Heaton Park 10k

Saturday 23rd February - Run Richmond Park 10k

Sunday 24th March - Wilmslow 10k

Sunday 7th April - Chatham Maritime 10k

Sunday 5th May - Regent's Park 10k

Sunday 2nd June - The Great Hertfordshire AONB 10k

Sunday 7th July - Alderley Edge 10k

Wednesday 7th August - The Bedgebury Pinetum 10k

Sunday 22nd September - Stafford 10k

Sunday 13th October - Petts Wood 10k

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

£5 could pay to add one service to Dementia Connect, our online directory that helps people affected by dementia find local support in one easy postcode search.

£11 could pay for a person with dementia and their carer to attend one of our Dementia Cafés.

£30 could fund one of our Side by Side services for one hour, pairing people with dementia with volunteers so that they have the support they need.
