Story
Project Kenya,
Well we have been and conquered Kenya and completed all our challenges and had an amazing time doing it. Thank you all so much for your donations, not only did we manage to get school equipment and tools for the school we have almost achieved paying for 4 full time Marie Curie nurses and what an achievement that is. After spending 12 days with my colleagues and realising how many of them have first and experience of what work the nurses do I am more than happy for money to go to this cause and it really is used in the right way.
The first four days were spent meeting and being welcomed by the local school children and then starting the refurbishment and maintenance of the primary school. The team bonded really well with the locals and each other and achieved so much with hard graft, receiving much appreciation from the parents, teachers and school children. Together we built 37 desks from scratch with a blunt saw and a broken hammer, fixed at least 6 desks, painted 3 classrooms and a staff room and constructed guttering for the collection of rainwater, as water is so hard to come by. With my new trade skills I managed to fix the netball hoop and made a stool for the oldest teacher at the school to sit on.
The children were amazing and really appreciated everything we did, they loved the stickers, bubbles and definitely the glitter, and I have never seen such sparkly kids with such happy faces in a long time. The children entertained us with traditional Maasai dancing and singing, and we returned their thanks with renditions of Old MacDonald’s Farm and a well-rehearsed Hokey Cokey! The Masaai people really do have very little and their gratitude has been apparent to all of us throughout this emotional journey.
It has been an amazing experience and one I will never forget, once again thank you so much for your sponsorship and for those that are still keen to donate please do so on www.justgiving.com/tracyhowden we are so close to our target.
I will send some photos around once I have them all sorted.
Thanks and regards Tracy
