Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This April, three years later than originally planned (I got a place in the ballot for 2020), I will be doing the London marathon.
I am running to raise money for Dementia UK. My mum has dementia with Lewy bodies. It is a horrible, progressive disease that in mum’s case started with hallucinations (everything from seeing umbrellas that weren’t there to vivid stories about days out that only happened in her head), sleeping a lot and being less ‘there’ and has now resulted in her being unable to walk, stand or do anything for herself.
As my mum’s health and motor functions deteriorated, my dad was her full time carer. It was only when he had gone way past the limits of physical and mental exhaustion that he made the brave, and right, decision to put her in a specialist home.
My dad didn’t use the services of Dementia UK but if by running the London marathon and raising money for them I can prevent even one person going through what my dad went through, then it is worth every step I will take on the day.
