Aspire Channel Swim 2018 · 10 September 2018 to 3 December 2018 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Since  2013 leg pain has dominated my life from the time I wake up (be it at 2 am or 6am) till the time I go to sleep, at varying levels. MRIS and zrays have provided no answers since no damage shows.

It's stopped my love of and ability to run pretty much in its tracks. Some days just walking up the stairs makes my legs scream. I use the treadmill to support my legs walking.

Physio,  podiatry,  acupuncture have little or no effect and I am currently trying cbd oil since taking codeine, naproxen and amitryptaline on a daily basis is not good in the long term.

So for the sake of my physical and mental I've taken to swimming. It's a complete distraction.  So I am taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2018, swimming the distance of the Channel (at least 22 miles) over 12 weeks to raise money for Aspire.

Every eight hours (!) someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently. This puts my pain and daily struggle in to perspective.

This is a big challenge, not least because of the timetable of my local swimming pool combined with work/commuting but also because I am no Thorpedo.

However,  the more I raise, the more of a difference I'll make, so please be generous!

I'm rubbish at self promotion so have set a low amount and hope to meet it via sponsorship and a vegan bake sale.

Thanks ever so.
