Story
Hi Everyone! As most of you know I've discovered a love and enjoyment for running. I've managed to run 5K and very recently completed my very first 10K race managing to run the whole way. I am now going to attempt my very first half marathon! Which is both a very exciting and scary prospect!
A big challenge! But will be amazing if I manage to achieve it!
I'm taking part in my very first Great North Run this year for The Stroke Association in memory of my dear dad and grandma. I sadly lost both of them to Strokes.
My dad suffered a stroke completely out of the blue on 14th Febuary last year and was admitted to hospital. Unfortunately he suffered another stroke the following day and tragically passed away on 17th Febuary aged 64. My dad had no health problems and was due to retire that Summer. His sudden and tragic death was a shock to everyone that knew and loved him.
My grandma suffered a stroke and sadly died in hospital on October 16, 2009 aged 84. My grandma had experienced and suffered many health problems over the years. She'd fought many health battles and struggles.
Both my dad and grandma were very strong, determined, stubborn people with drive. Traits I am proud to say I've inherited from them both. They were very similar in their principles, values and morals that they instilled in me over the years. But when it came to their health they couldn't be further apart. My dad and grandma are prime examples that strokes can happen to anyone. Age, health and gender has nothing to do with it.
My hope by taking part in The Great North Run in their memory is that I will raise money and awareness to help and support many people like my Dad and Grandma.

Thank You! 💜 xxx
