Story
Those who know me, will know fitness is not at the top of my list! However, this year I've decided to challenge myself and walk 26 miles (42 kms) on 20 July, to raise much needed money for research into a cure for Alzheimer's. This is a cause very close to my heart, having watched my father battle with both Alzheimer's and Vascular dementia and ultimately pass away just over a year ago. Dad was always an active person, a bit cheeky and with a sharp wit. We watched him slowly deteriorate and his personality change. We swopped places with him, with us becoming the carer and dad the child. We tried to maintain dad's dignity, keep him safe and reassure him. However, nothing prepares you for the horrors that lie ahead. Seeing dad robbed of his faculties, being distressed, not knowing who we were, frightened and confused was heartbreaking. They call this disease the long goodbye and it really is, we found ourselves in a perpetual state of grief. Please help me raise funds towards research into this dreadful disease so ultimately a cure can be found. Any amount, no matter how small, makes a difference and I'd be very grateful. Thank you in advance for your support and wish me luck!
