Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
On 5th July 2009 I will be taking leave of my senses and jumping from a plane at 13,000 feet After freefalling for an eternity, my instructor will (hopefully!) pull the cord and we shall return to terra firma in one piece. I am jumping on behalf of the NSPCC and hope to raise money to continue the excellent work this charity do.
The NSPCC provides a valuable service, not only the public face that we see. e.g. the STOP campaign but also behind the scenes, training members of the public to listen/help/counsel children who are sad, desperate and lonely, and above all, those being abused. The recent stories in the press of abused children being killed by the people who are supposed to love them unconditionally have had enormous repurcussions throughout the country. These counsellors who man the phonelines obviously cannot help these poor children and could not have done, but any money raised that can fund counsellors to help those more able to help themselves would be of enormous benefit. If just one more counsellor can have funded training through my Jump, then that's even more children that have a lifeline.
I contacted the NSPCC to train as a voluntary counsellor but after a chat it became apparent that because of geographical reasons it was not possible for me to actually man the phonelines - hence my Jump for someone else to have the opportunity to help a child.
