Story
I always said I would eventually raise money for those who helped my mum in her final months of her life. Marie Curie Newcastle is filled with 'earth angels'! I am only just coming to terms with life without my mum, and I feel strong enough emotionally to do something now to raise some money in thanks for those who helped my mum but also helped me live while she was dying.
I am going to (god help me) to do the Spartan Super Race
(13km - 25 obstacles) in Edinburgh on 19th July. ( here's a
link to an old video

There is absolutely no way whatsoever that I could do this
at the moment but I have 10 weeks to train and I really need to
train! I've never even ran this distance never mind with obstacles! However I just think that
whatever pain I have to go through it will be nothing in
comparison to my mum. She started off with oesophagus
cancer and had a gruelling 9 hour long operation in November 2012 at
age 71, unfortunately after the operation she was in
excrutiating pain because the line which was feeding the
pain killer into her spine had been dislodged. She was so
unwell for months but in May 2013 she started to feel
better, she got rid of her wig, had her hair done (by my lovely hairdresser Roy at Milk Hair!) and began
meeting friends again for coffee, she got tired very quickly
but just kept going and never moaned. In July of 2013 she
began to feel unwell again and to cut a long story short the
cancer had unfortunately spread to her bones - mainly spine
and legs. As the cancer developed if she tried to walk her bones would fracture or collapse as they were so weak, she would get sudden severe pain as the bones in her spine broke and collapsed. However,
she just continued to live and move about as much as she could and
never complained she just smiled all the time and in fact it's the first
thing i see when I think of her... her smile. My mum won so many
fights with this horrible disease but finally she
lost her battle and she was taken away from us in Feb 2014.
Marie Curie Newcastle looked after my mum, they became an extended family and she loved and adored all the Dr's, Nurses and Carers. One lady called Norma used to pamper my mum and give her new 'hair do's', the wonderful chef heard my mum was missing her Sunday bacon roll and he went out for bacon! They would sometimes just sit by her bed and talk and laugh, they did laugh a lot. Their care was endless and unconditional I will never be able to say thank you enough.
I know there are so many charities raising money for exceptionally good causes and so I thank you for even taking the time to read this. The money raised will of course go toward absolute vital funding but for me I thank you for anything at all you are kind enough to donate as I just want to say thank you to Marie Curie and my mum. Marie Curie continue their work as earth angels and the other now is a true angel and will NOT believe what I am going to do. She'll be thinking "I can't believe she's going to get those beautiful manicured nails dirty"!
