An estimated 14% of the
Sub-Saharan population suffer with chronic kidney disease, but less than
1% have access to treatment when their kidneys fail. Too many are destined
to die undiagnosed or without medical treatment. Here in the UK all such
patients are considered for dialysis and/or kidney transplant and life
opportunities are transformed. This disparity is something we can help
alleviate.

KCA has close links with
several dialysis and kidney units in Sub-Saharan Africa, including in Tanzania
where our team have been working for the last six years with colleagues at
Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC). Through our collaboration we have
helped the team at KCMC provide the surgical aspect of dialysis care independently,
leading to better outcomes for the local population. Due to our unique
success in training teams locally, we have been approached by units in
Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya to help
improve the care for patients with kidney failure.

This climb aims to raise
money and awareness to help us continue the fantastic work our team have
started at KCMC and help us improve care for patients with kidney failure throughout
the developing world.
