On the 22nd May 2011, I will be taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon and running 26.2 miles for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

MND is a charity that means a lot to me and my family. When I was 17 years old, I found out that my Dad had MND. Sadly 3 years later, on the 1st August 2006, my Dad passed away at only 50 years old.

Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones.
Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.

So basically if you imagine a healthy and alert mind trapped inside a body that can’t move, but can still think and feel. That’s the devastating reality of Motor Neurone Disease. MND is a rapidly progressive, fatal disease that robs people of the ability to walk, talk and feed themselves. With no cure.

The MND Association fund and promote research to try and help make MND history. Until then, MND Association do all they can to ensure everyone affected by MND receives the best possible care and support.
