Story
What do you do when one of your Best Friends tells you they have Terminal Cancer?
for me it was mind blowing, devastating, unbelievable all in one go (and still is)
Kevin & I have been in the Motor Trade from the age of 17. I got to know him better around 10 years ago when we joined North Devon Roller Derby & started socialising with our partners. Some great memories made * Check out our photos
Kev joined me @ County Garage in 2015 & took the role of Group Parts Manager.
I had been really struggling with the work pressures and
really wasn’t in a very good place. Kevin stepped in and put a stop to it,
Covering for me in a whole new environment for 6 weeks so I could get the break I needed – A TRUE FRIEND.
I started running not long after that for my mental health recovery
& on many occasions we trained together, I know running is something Kev misses very much.
He had booked to run the Barnstaple Half Marathon last September, with Mark & I but because of the Cancer is no longer able to run, however he was still there to support us along the way (emotional)
Why North Devon Hospice? whilst Kev & I were chatting one day, he said:
“I know I will end my life there – but the support they have
given me & my family so far has been amazing, how lucky are we to have this facility on our doorstep?” THIS GOT ME.
I watched & trained with a few of my closest friends the took part in last year’s London Marathon & it inspired me!
“I CAN DO THIS!!!!”
Kevin’s illness has shown me a few things:
● Never put things off you want to do
● Never be embarrassed to tell people you love them
● Push the boundaries, make goals, and achieve them
But most importantly:
● Never, ever give up.
Kevin is currently undergoing chemotherapy @ the Seamoor
Unit at NDH to try to slow the Cancer & hopefully extend his time with his
family & friends. He is very keen to be in London to support me along the
way. (Health permitting) This would be amazing.
Especially due to Covid, I really want to raise some desperately needed funds for the North Devon Hospice and I am asking
for your help.
Please support me & give me the much-needed motivation
when my legs don’t want to move another step.
Cancer does not discriminate, it arrives when you least expect it and rips your world apart.
Please Follow my progress on Social media, I will be posting
updates on training and upcoming Races. I hope to keep it interesting & funny with some video clips, photos and most importantly some great fundraising events to get the money rolling in!!
