Story
Hello, and thank you for stopping by! It's been a few years, but I'm about to make my third hair donation to The Little Princess Trust. I started purposefully growing my hair for this again in October 2021 - it's longer than it's ever been so this will be my biggest donation to date, hopefully at least 14 inches (it's currently just about waist-length at the back)! I'm not *quite* going the full hog and shaving my head, but there should be a reasonably dramatic before/after set of photos I will share...
Obviously, this type of donation has (very fortunately) not taken much concentration or effort from me - other than patience when I dry it - which is why I'll also be supporting the charity with a financial donation to help cover some of their costs. If you have anything to spare at all, no matter how much or how little, that would be fantastic too. I don't ask on behalf of myself because I've not done anything really, other than think growing thoughts, but I ask because the charity could really use our help.
The Little Princess Trust provides wigs free of charge to children and young people up to the age of 24 who have lost their hair due to cancer or other conditions. It's also pretty local to where my family live, which is nice!
The cost to make just one real-hair wig can be as much as an eye-watering £550, due to sorting, storage, making by hand, styling, fitting and other costs. And if my hair is deemed of good enough quality, it will take multiple other donations (up to 14) to make just that one wig - crazy, right? Luckily, wig recipients don't have to pay for any of this.
You can find some further info from the charity below, for if you're interested in learning more or even thinking about donating your own hair! They currently provide around 150 wigs, free of charge, every month.
When a child loses their hair to cancer or another condition, The Little Princess Trust is there to offer a free, real hair wig to help restore their confidence and identity. The charity also funds childhood cancer research seeking to find kinder and more effective treatments. Please visit www.littleprincesses.org.uk to find out how you can help LPT give young people back what cancer takes away. The Little Princess Trust relies solely on the efforts of enthusiastic community fundraisers.
