On the 1/2nd June Martyn Dobson (CEO, Lincolnshire Cricket) will team up with friend, and former Lincolnshire County Cricket teammate, Paul Cook (Founder of the Fitness Barn) to tackle a mammoth running challenge to raise money for two great causes.
We aim to run from the most northerly Cricket Club in the county (Barton on Humber) to the most southerly Cricket Club in the county (Stamford). During the run we will cover approx 95 miles and aim to complete this in 36 hours. At all times Paul and I intend to observe government guidelines around social distacning and this page will be regularly updated with details of how we intend to adhere to the latest government advice around this.
We are attempting this challenge to raise money for two great causes. All the money we raise will be split between:
- Chance to Shine, a national cricketing charity who provide children with the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket helping to develop the personal, social and physical skills of the 500,000 children they work with every year.
- A 'Restart Cricket Fund'. 50% of money raised will go into a fund that will be used to provide financial support to the network of amateur Cricket Clubs in Lincolnshire. This fund will be managed by the local County Cricket Board and will provide support as clubs prepare to restart activity in their community settings post COVID-19.
Paul and myself have both experienced and benefitted from the wider benefits that sport and community sport clubs in particular can deliver. Sport is a fantastic vehicle to bring communities together, promote social interaction as well as impacting on an individuals health and well being. Sport has an important role to play post COVID-19 and we both hope that the proceeds of this challenge can help in some way.
Paul also plays rugby for Scunthorpe RUFC and at the end of this challenge we will also be making a financial donation to the Samaritans mental health charity in memory of 3 Scunthorpe players who tragically took their own lives, James Walker, Dave Carter & Steven Daniels.
Any donation however big or small would be hugely appreciated. We aim to 'pass by' as many cricket clubs as we can on the route and we will keep everyone posted with details of how you can interact with this challenge.
To stay up to date with news of the route, Paul and Martyn's preparation and how you can interact with the Lincolnshire Top to Bottom please follow Lincolnshire County Cricket and/or Paul Cook PT on Facebook.
Many thanks to you all
Martyn and Paul
