The Single Homeless Project is a London-based charity focussed on preventing homelessness and promoting social inclusion. With Local Welfare Provision funding cut by 58% this year and homelessness in London rising by the day, with deadly consequences, the work of this charity is more vital than ever. The SHP's services include:- Helping rough sleepers to move off the streets and rebuild their lives
- Supporting people with mental ill health or substance addition to navigate and access services
- Supporting young people who are homeless or leaving care to manage the transition to independent living
- Supporting people with offending histories to reintegrate into the community
- Providing training, education and employment opportunities for the homeless and vulnerable
- Campaigning on behalf of the homeless and vulnerable on local and national government issues
To raise awareness of this charity's hugely important work, for the first week of June I'm going to be walking to and from work every day - I may grumble about having to live far out of town, but at least I have somewhere to go home to, as everyone should. It's 7 miles from Tooting Bec to Tottenham Court Road, so that's 14 miles a day, and 70 miles in all - or 5 half marathons in a row if you like. Better get my bum in gear.
If you'd like to donate to the SHP in recognition of this, that would be fantastic! Just shimmy on over to the right hand side of this page and follow the simple steps.
You can find out more about the difference the SHP makes at www.shp.org.uk.
Thanks so much for your support!
