Story
Dad passed away on 5th June 2011 just after midnight, from the devastating complications of a haemorrhagic (bleeding) stroke.
In his memory we would like to highlight the devastating damage that a stroke can do, both to the individual and their family. This type of stroke can't be treated with drugs and surgery is rare!
In Dads case he lost the use of his right side, including sight, communication, and crucially the ability to swallow. The inability to swallow means upto 1 litre of saliva a day flows into the lungs. This can cause chest infections and Pneumonia. Dad fought 4 chest infections, slowly deteriorating over the 7 weeks. Finally Pneumonia took hold and even strong antibiotics couldn't fight it.
67,000 people are killed and 150,000 people affected by strokes in UK each year! It can strike at any age and doesn't matter if your fit and healthy or not.
