Story
Thanks for taking time to visit our fundraising page.
After the amazing amount you all helped us raise last year for March for Men (£4000), we felt we needed to up our game for this year's fundraising efforts, especially with so many rising costs. So Tony's Tri Challenge was born! This will consist of the Great North Run - one on Tony's bucket list - on September 11th, the Football March September 25th, and finishing with our old favourite the Great South Run on October 16th the day after Tony's birthday. Sadly there is no Jeff Stelling for the Football March this year but we are still walking a football grounds marathon, between AFC Wimbledon, Brentford, Fulham, QPR and Millwall. The Great North Run is a half marathon, and the Great South is 10 miles. It will be our first time doing the Great North, but Tony has completed the Great South an impressive 13 times since 2007.
As you know from last year, the reason for raising money for Prostate Cancer UK is a personal one. In summer 2020 while the country was struggling with lockdown we were dealing with a different nightmare, as Tony (Bungy for the Navy and football mates) was diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer, just before his 60th birthday. Advanced meaning it has already spread to his bones and it is now incurable, they can only manage it for as long as they can. Two years on and the treatment is still going well, but it means a lot to us both to raise as much money as we can to fund research into this cruel disease, and other treatment options. Prostate Cancer UK strive for ‘a future where lives are not limited by prostate cancer.’ We fully uphold that mission and want to do all we can towards it.
The treatment side effects will make this a huge challenge for Tony. Although we did the March and the Great South last year, the two events are closer together this year giving little time for recovery. The Great North adds another challenge before the March, and is longer than we have done in any running event since his diagnosis. So we will be training hard (between football games!). We hugely appreciate anything you can give to support us in our challenge, especially as money is so tight for many at the moment.
