On the 26th July I am competing in the Outlaw "Ironman distance" Triathlon in Nottingham.
This event consists of a 2.4 mile lake swim, wetsuit off then followed by 112 miles on the bike. Trainers on to finish with a full ( 26.2 mile) marathon. It's all done back to back with no breaks and will start at 6am. There's an overall 17 hour time limit with strict cut off times for each event.
Why?
Nearly three years ago I lost my amazing Mom to this terrible affliction. As many others have, my family and I have been on a journey to try and come to terms with this irreplaceable loss.
The last 12 months have also been a journey for me in just how much you can push your body and mind when you challenge your limits. Particularly relevant in this case as a year ago I couldn't swim one length of a pool and the last time I was on a bike was for my paper round !
In doing the Outlaw I hope to raise much needed cash for a cause that will have touched most people reading this, in one way or another. More than half diagnosed will now live, and this figure will only increase with more financial support and awareness. Cancer research UK is at the forefront to make this possible.
Any support you can give, however small, will be so gratefully received and go toward beating the Big C!!!
