Story
At just 41 days old, Tony suffered horrific abuse at the hands of his biological parents. He suffered multiple fractures, dislocations, blunt trauma to his face which led to multi-organ failure, toxic-shock and sepsis. He ended up on life support and seconds from death.
Then, sadly in 2017, he needed to have both his legs amputated due to those extreme injuries. His left hip is dislocated and missing the ball joint due to infection, he has hand issues and is deaf in his right ear.
However, even though Tony suffered so much so young, today he is a bright, happy and confident little boy, who loves life. And we could not be prouder of him.
After seeing Captain Tom on the TV last April, Tony set his own challenge to walk 10km on his new legs and crutches to raise some pennies for the wonderful Evelina London Children's Hospital, his second home. With the support of Captain Tom and the nation, he smashed his target and raised over £1.5 million.
Sadly, Tony never got to actually meet Sir Captain Tom before his passing this year. There is not a day goes by that Tony does not speak about him still and we are so grateful he encouraged him to walk with his crutches.
So it seems rather fitting that Tony take on the Captain Tom 100 Challenge. Tony has chosen to take 100 steps unaided between 30th April and 3rd May – the challenge weekend.
While this may seem like an easy task, Tony’s only managed five or six steps without his crutches before, so this is yet another huge mountain for him to climb 💙
Every year, Evelina London provides vital care and support for more than 103,000 children and young people from across London and the South East. Your donations in support of Tony will help make an enormous difference to their work and enable Evelina London to do everything possible to ensure that all children in their care can live their best lives, today and tomorrow.
Thank you all!
