Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Please donate Just £2, even if you have never heard of Tony Swarbrick!
I am planning, in September 2014, to walk the “Offa’s Dyke” long distance footpath from Cheptow to Prestatyn (177miles”) to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease.
Until September 2012 when Pauline, my wife, was diagnosed I had never heard of Motor Neurone Disease in any meaningful way. If I had heard of it at all I had dismissed it as “one of those rare conditions that affect other people”! Eight months later when Pauline died through the condition I was somewhat more aware of the condition, and the problems faced by people living with MND.
Rather than look for a few people to each sponsor me with several pounds, I am asking for Just £2 each from lots of people. I will start the ball rolling by inviting 100 people to donate £1. if each of these 100 people ask just 5 other people and each of these 5 also ask 5 more I will exceed my fundraising target of £2,500. Imagine what might be raised if 10, 20 … are asked each time!!!! But more importantly imagine how many people will be made aware of this devastating condition and be able to press Politicians and Health professionals to provide an appropriate level of support for people living with the disease.
Of course donations above £2 are appreciated, but don’t forget to pass on the message to at least 5 of your colleagues and friends.
Why “Offa’s Dyke”? Ruth is presently living with MND, and was friend and support to myself and Pauline during Pauline’s illness. She tells me that she has had a fulfilling life, and has few regrets. One things she wishes she had managed to do was to walk Offa’s Dyke. I have taken on the challenge of this walk as a tribute to Ruth, who’s good humoured and positive acceptance of her MND is an inspiration and support to others in the Wirral Support Group of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Dates: Tuesday August 26th (Start at Chepstow) - Thursday September 11th (Arrive Prestatyn)
