Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - here's why

I lived with my Aunty and Uncle for eight years from September 1995, during which time Barrie was somewhat of a father figure to me. Even when I left to set up home with Michelle we continued to have a very close relationship, and one of his greatest contributions to our life was giving a speech at our wedding in May 2007

Unfortunately Barrie contracted Ataxia in 2008, a rare neurological degenerative condition which affects his speech, co-ordination, and balance. His condition has slowly deteriorated over the years with the illness steadily restricting his day-to-day life, and is now registered disabled.

Only a few weeks ago, we discovered Barrie has developed dementia as a result of the ataxia.

The disease has many strains and there are thousands of people in the UK who have ataxia and simply not aware. The money raised will contribute to new research projects and provide much needed support to its sufferers.
