Story
Last year, cancer claimed the lives of two of our workmates-Gordon Proctor and Walter 'Wally' Metcalfe. In memory of these fine friends(and all others whom this terrible disease has claimed), Alex McGregor and I will attempt to walk from Milngavie to Fort William using the Long Distance Route known as the West Highland Way,beginning Saturday, 2nd May.
Itll be a distance of 96 miles, but well add another 4 to make it a round 100.And just to make it even more interesting(for interesting, read 'tougher') well be carrying everything we need with us.So instead of adopting the common technique of using cosy Bed and Breakfasts and Sherpa Buses to transport our kit,our plan is to take tents, sleeping bags, stoves, food, water purification/filtration apparatus, plus a whole host of other kit and cater for ourselves. Were thinking 7 days of walking, and 6 nights in the tents. Most overnight stops will be 'wildcamping',but well use official sites wherever theyre more convenient.
So,bring on the Midges, Clegs, Ticks(all nasty, spiteful insects that specialise in giving us a hard time),torrential rain, gale force winds, sleep deprivation, aching muscles and blisters.
GORDON AND WALLY-THIS IS FOR YOU.
