Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Some of you may already know I have been a runner for quite a few years favouring Half Marathons, completing my first in 1994. During the lock down over the last year or so I took the opportunity to use the time I saved not travelling to increase my training and have a go at my first Full Marathon before I got too old! In fact I thought I would go one better and try an Ultra Marathon.
Whilst it didn't go exactly as planned I did finish, (long story but basically managed to poison myself with a pack of silica gel), but it took a lot longer than anticipated (a lot longer!) So I may be mad but I have decided to have one more go and try and get it right this time.
The Thames Path Challenge on September 11th runs from Putney Bridge in London to Runnymede along the Thames side. This event gave me an ideal chance to have another go at a (relatively) easy 50km run and as my wife rightly reminded me it is also an ideal opportunity to raise some money for charity, and I have chosen to run to help the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare. Their mission to put the ‘child first and always’ helps describe why they exist which is to help the sickest children with complex health needs to fulfil their potential.
GOSH is the largest paediatric centre in the UK for paediatric intensive care, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, and cancer services and I cannot think of another more deserving cause.
(You can find out more about how the Great Ormond Street charity supports the hospital here www.gosh.org)
Please help me support GOSH by sponsoring me today.
Your sponsorship is greatly appreciated and will help GOSH to put more sick children first and always whilst looking after their health.
Its not all going to be easy going up until September, as I write this I still have over 500km of training runs to complete before the main event and I am on week 18 of a 26 week training plan in preparation. I will keep a link to my activities on this page so you can see how I am getting on . Oh and I will remember to check my drink bottle for silica gel packs this time too!
Thanks again for visiting my page and for your donations,
Tony
