Story
I'm going to be running the London Marathon in 2023. Writing that still feels wierd and all sorts of wrong.
However, my Dad has been supported by Macmillan during 2022 and running a few miles (a terrifying lot of miles) is the least I can do to raise funds for this truly amazing charity.
Earlier this year we were shocked by the news that Dad had cancer. When you first hear the diagnosis you get hit with all sorts of sensations, but mainly a sense of dread, fear and confusion. It's a frightening time.
However, within days of entering the NHS cancer services Mum and Dad were scooped up by the utterly wonderful Macmillan nurses. It's only when times are tough that you get to see how many wonderful people there are out there, caring for people they've never met before. Karen and the Macmillan team just seemed to be endlessly kind, caring and available, despite how busy they must have been. They were truly wonderful and we owe them so much.
There is nothing I could do that would properly show our gratitude to Macmillan, but rather than doing nothing, why not just run the 2023 London Marathon to raise £2,500 for Macmillan? Nope, still sounds weird.
Despite the weirdness, I'll be pounding the streets of East Sussex, over the winter months wearing a lovely green Macmillan t-shirt, trying to get enough miles in my legs to actually finish the marathon.
We all know times are tough, but if you can, please make a donation to support the work of these wonderful nurses. It doesn't matter how small, because every penny donated will help them to continue making a real difference to peoples lives, every single day.
Thank you
Tony
