Story
Hi everyone.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my page. My name is Toni Scamans. I am a 47 year old mum of two who has had the most fortunate of lives so far!
Recently life has changed significantly in many different ways. Feeling a little low and deflated I came across an opportunity at work which caught my attention. I applied and have been very lucky to secure a place on an Icelandic trek in September. This will be a challenge and something I can focus on, opening up my adventurous spirit once again.
I will be doing as much fundraising as I can to raise money in aid of Crisis UK and every donation will help. Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. They help people directly out of homelessness, and campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this great cause which I feel very passionate about after meeting a gentleman in Scotland who has been homeless for many years and hearing his story.
Homelessness is not a choice, but rather a journey that many find themselves in.
The trek is going to be very demanding both physically and mentally.
We will be trekking for around 7-10 hours per day.
Covering 60km over 3 days of hiking, with the longest day being 24km
Battling the elements in the highlands of Iceland experiencing rain that lasts all day, blazing sunshine or snow and fog on top of the mountains.
Taking on lots of steep hill climbs, particularly on the first day.
I will have to put my own tent up each night and dismantle it in the morning.
None of this is anywhere near as challenging for those individuals or families who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, such as those living in emergency shelters, transitional housing, or places not meant for habitation!
All of the monies raised will be dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change. The charity’s innovative education, employment, housing and well-being services address individual needs and help people to transform their lives.
