Leeds Varsity cricket event to celebrate the life of Tommy Hardman
Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Leeds will compete against one another in the inaugural Varsity Twenty20 cricket match. The event will be held as a memorial match for Tommy Hardman, the former Leeds Metropolitan University cricketer who passed away suddenly last year.
The match will take place on Tuesday 7 May at Sports Park Weetwood, the University of Leeds outdoor sports facility. The match will start at 5pm outside the main pavilion.
As well as being a highly talented cricketer Tommy was, genuinely, one of the nicest guys you could meet. He was an inspirational character, a friend to everyone and the sort of guy who always had a smile on his face. He lived for cricket but was also extremely dedicated to his studies. His future was bright both on and off the cricket field.
Tommy was the obvious choice to captain Leeds/Bradford MCCU for the 2013 season. Always 100% committed, he was a fierce competitor but also the ultimate sportsman and was immediately able to gain the respect of all around him. A good leader needs followers, and Tommy had followers in abundance. Tommy sadly passed away on Wednesday 28 November 2012.
Donations will be collected for the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) charity. CRY was established to increase awareness of the conditions that can lead to sudden cardiac death in young people, and is a charity that the Hardman family wish to acknowledge following the support they have received since Tommy’s death.
If you would like to donate please do so via this page, or alternatively at the event if you are able to attend.
Admission to the cricket match free and entry is open to all. The event expects to attract a large crowd of cricket fans and friends of Tommy Hardman from both universities and cricket clubs across Yorkshire and Lancashire.
