Story
Ciao beautiful people!
I need your help to help me help others (what a horrible repetition, you would't have guess that I'm Italian). I have been selected to volunteer in Zambia with Challenges Worldwide as part of the ICS Entrepreneur program. My goal is to help small local enterprises to grow into sustainable businesses, improving the socio-economic situation of the local community. The project will start in October and will run for 10 weeks, so I better leave my relaxed Italian attitude at home and get on with the work. Jokes aside, I do believe that this project will bring a long term benefit to the locals as it is only by empowering people to shape their future that we will achieve real socio-economic progress.
Poverty is widespread in Zambia, over 64 percent of the total population lives below the poverty line, rising to 80 percent in rural areas, meaning they do not have adequate income to meet their basic food requirements. A solution to this is to enable locals to create and sustainably develop their businesses, which will provide them a reliable sources of income.
Your donation will not go to me, or pay for my expenses (which are funded by UK Aid) - your money will go straight to Challenges Worldwide and will support their work and the development of the charity.
ICS Entrepreneur works with communities that have specifically requested their help and adapt programmes to their needs. I will be volunteering alongside young volunteers from UK and Zambia, who are all committed to achieved long term community development. I will be living with a Zambian host family, which will provide me a unique insight in the local culture.
