Story

MY LIFE AS A DOG:

Teenage Canine Carer to spend weekend in a kennel to raise money for Dogs Trust!

In an attempt to raise money for Dogs Trust and increase awareness of their work, I will spend 18th – 20th July in one of the charity’s kennels. I work for Dogs Trust and will spend the 48-hour period living like the dogs I normally care for. I'm appealing to you to sponsor me.

I’ve always loved dogs, so I was very excited to start working at Dogs Trust last November. Since then, I’ve gained a greater appreciation of what stray and abandoned dogs experience while they’re waiting for a new home. I came up with this idea to draw people’s attention to what they go through and also to raise funds for the dogs in our care.

I will enter a kennel in the reception area of the rehoming centre at 8am on Saturday 18th July and will stay there throughout the weekend until 8am on Monday 20th July. To ensure it’s an authentic kennel experience I will eat only plain chicken and rice, similar to a dog on a special diet. I will also sleep in an extra large dog bed, and although I’ll have some dog toys, I will have no mobile phone or iPod or even a book.

Alison Rodger, Manager of Dogs Trust Salisbury comments:  “Here at Dogs Trust Salisbury we care for our dogs to the highest standards – their kennels even have underfloor heating! Although we’ll look after Tom and ensure he gets regular walks, it will be tough for a human, so it’s admirable that he’s willing to go through the experience.”

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and cared for 16,000 dogs last year through its network of 17 Rehoming Centres. Dogs Trust has a non-destruction policy.

Please note:

- Anyone wanting to sponsor me can do so here at my Just Giving page or by visiting Dogs Trust Salisbury Rehoming Centre in Newton Tony, near Salisbury.

- This will not take up space that would otherwise allow the centre to take in any extra dogs and is being done in my spare time, so will not affect the level of care given to the dogs at the rehoming centre.

- I have been health checked by my GP to ensure it is safe for me to undertake this task.

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Dogs Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
