Story
Hi, I'm Tom, a 33-year-old costs and funding expert at a leading London law firm.
I'm stepping into a boxing ring for the first time to raise vital funds
for disabled children.
I have to say I'm a little anxious ahead of the bout, which takes place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in Mayfair, on Friday 6th October, 2017, as I've never had a fight in my life, not even as a child.
I've registered to take part in the inaugural Float Like
A Butterfly Ball white collar boxing event to raise money for Caudwell
Children, the national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families.
I’m quiet sporty and I played rugby and football at quite a
high level when I was younger. I’ve been training since my
birthday, in mid-June, but I don’t know if I’ll be fit enough by the time the
bout comes around.
I have to say I’m not sure how I will cope with someone
trying to punch me. I’m starting to feel like we should be able to mediate to reach a non-combative solution!
At 6ft 1, and weighing in at 92 kilos, I'm hoping to shed a
few pounds to make light heavyweight for the bout.
I was Born in Forest Gate, in the East End of London, and I'm a boxing fan. Anthony Joshua is my favourite boxer.
The worst sports injury that I’ve ever had is injured
pride! That’s why I’m unsure as to how I’ll cope with being
hit.
I think I’ve got quite a high pain threshold but my wife
has made me question myself. When she found out that I’d registered for the fight she said that I cry when I stub my toe.
My family are not happy about me taking part in the bout. They recognise that it’s for a great cause as the £1,000 that I’m looking to raise will help Caudwell Children to support disabled children with specialist equipment, therapies and treatments.
However, they’re finding it difficult to come to terms with. They don’t want to see me get hurt so they may not turn up to the fight. My
friends, on the other hand, can’t wait to see me take a few blows!
I do hope that you support my fundraising efforts.
Gulp!!!
