Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the Tom Baker and Professor Gribben Hodgkin's Lymphoma research project.
Having suffered Hodgkin's and chemotherapy at the beginning of this year, I hope to cycle La Route des Grandes Alpes in September in order to raise money for a research doctorate at St Barts hospital. The research will focus on the treatment of Hodgkin's Lymphoma through the use of 'immunotherapy', a potentially groundbreaking method of cancer treatment that could herald an end to chemo and radiotherapy. It employs the body's own immune system to fight the cancer and could be used in all types of cancer. Much progress has been made in the field but this research will focus on finding the final key to unlock the defenses that Hodgkin's has against the immune system.
700km of alpine road and 17km of vertical ascent in 7 days ranks as a more extreme rehabilitation programme but aside from making it a worthy challenge I have to ask my body the question of whether it's still capable.
Donating through Justgiving is totally secure and also the most efficient way to sponsor me: if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. The money goes to the Barts and The London Charity but will be specifically set aside for the research post.
Many thanks for your help.
Tom
