Story
This is our son Ethan who was born 25th june 2012 with
CONGENITAL MELANOCYTIC NAEVI (CMN) .
this is like a birthmark/mole which covers about 35% of his body.
when he was born at york hospital the midwifes/doctors had not seen
anything like this before and refered us to the dermatologist professor
newtonbishop in leeds and then onto dr veronica kinsler at
Great Ormand street hospital London.
on his 1st birthday he had to have an MRI scan to check his brain and spinal cord
to check for abnormalities which can cause neurological problems.
Thankfully Ethans came back all clear and we where both over the moon
by his results but unfortunatly in some families they do not.
CMN can also cause Maglignant Melanoma of the skin or brain which can
occur in of those with the largest Naevi. Dr vernoica kinsler then told us
about this amazing charity called CARING MATTERS NOW who help
families who are affected by this. we recently went to one of there family
days in liverpool and i cannot begin to discribe how wonderful the day was
for us, chatting to familys and sharing experiances good and bad. they also
inspired us to start to raising money for this charity as it is very close to our
hearts. The research so far has been amazing as they have found the
reason which this happens and found the gean. Now Dr Kinsler is wanting
to find a way to stop more cmn growing after birth as we know because
Ethan has grown more and more on his legs, bum and arms and also
possible treatments but to do this we need your support to raise money
and awarness for this charity. In our own opinion this charity has helped us
as a family to come to terms with ethans cmn and have shown us that we
are not alone.
