Story
Leukaemia Care is a wonderful charity dedicated to ensuring that anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support. Around 34,000 people are affected by blood cancer each year in the UK and we're here to support them through their diagnosis, treatment and beyond. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an significant, but invisible indirect impact on cancer patients through the huge additional strain that the pandemic has placed on the NHS. Cancer patients are experiencing delays in diagnoses and treatment as a result. Leukaemia Care is playing a crucial role in supporting blood cancer patients battle through disease during these unprecedented times.
I discovered running in my mid 30's and it quickly turned into my life's passion. Over the years I have completed numerous half, full and ultra marathon events for various charities including the Greek Marathon finishing in the original Olympic Stadium in Athens and the Benidorm marathon. I also completed a charity relay from Leicester to Krefeld in Germany.
Sadly, in my mid 50s I had to give up running for almost a decade due to a hip replacement operation. However, following a second hip replacement operation in my mid 60s I was delighted to be able to take up distance running once again.
It has always been my life-long ambition to run the London Marathon, but I haven't been able to secure a place until now. I will turn the ripe of old of 70 years young in 2021. Running to raise much needed funds for Leukaemia Care to support people with blood cancer will be a truly wonderful way to mark my 70th year by fulfilling a life-long ambition to run the London Marathon.
Please donate whatever amount you can afford to help support this wonderful charity who work tirelessly to help people with blood cancers.
