Tom's Half Marathon and Listening Volunteering Fundraising Page

Royal Parks Half Marathon 2021 · 10 October 2021 ·
Every day 18 people in the UK take their own life. And suicide in the UK is increasing, with deaths by suicide rising by almost 12% in 2018, a 16 year high. Despite this, effective, ongoing suicide support is hard to find. The Listening Place meets this need through free, face-to-face, non-judgemental, confidential suicide support. Support is delivered by highly-trained volunteers and continues for as long as someone needs. We have a long-term plan to expand across London and eventually offer support to every suicidal person in the capital.
• It costs around £294 for The Listening Place to support a suicidal person for as long as it takes to reduce their suicidal feelings.
• We have a team of over 500 active volunteers who deliver around 100 appointments a day and we are currently supporting more than 1,000 people.
• Using clinically recognised measures, after an average of four months of support, Visitors to The Listening Place report highly significant reductions in how suicidal they feel.
