Story
Dementia and Alzheimer’s is a growing problem across the world, with more and more people being diagnosed each year. With an ageing population the problem is only expected to get worse. There is currently no cure which sees people sadly deteriorate as they age, something that is devastating for both them and for their families. I have therefore decided to run for Dementia Revolution in the Virgin Money London Marathon 2019 to help to find a cure for a truly terrible disease.
In 2003 my grandmother, who suffered from dementia, sadly passed away from an unrelated condition. She suffered from the first stages of the disease when she passed away so thankfully the full effects were not seen. The thought of her slowly not being able to remember who my three brothers, myself and the rest of my family were was a scary one, and one I would not wish on anyone.
Dementia Revolution has been made charity of the year for the 2019 marathon, which is testament to what an amazing cause the charity is. The charity aims to raise £3.5m for the Dementia Research Institute, the single biggest initiative in dementia research ever launched in the UK. With your support we can help Dementia Revolution in achieving this goal, which will go towards understanding the disease further and hopefully supporting them in finding a cure. Any donation, large or small, would be so much appreciated.
