Story

UPDATE:  I'm pleased to say that we arrived at John O'Groats on schedule at lunchtime on Monday 11th June!  Very happy to have made it but even more overjoyed to have been able to raise a considerable sum for a very worthy cause.  We would both like to take this opportunity to thank you all again for your support and sponsorship, which has been both extremely generous and incredibly humbling. We really have been blown away by the sums that have been pledged and by the kind words and messages received over the past couple of weeks.

A brief summary of our ride is set out below for those who are interested.  We have also uploaded some photos of the trip which can be viewed here - http://photobucket.com/LEJOG2012

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Between 2 and 11 June the two of us (Tom Baines and Sam Parker) will be cycling the length of Britain in order to raise money for University of Nottingham - Children's Brain Tumour Research.

At a distance of 941.7miles, this will be bar far the longest cycle ride either of us has ever undertaken.  To make the challenge less daunting, we will be stopping over at various budget hostels and B&Bs en route and probably sourcing most of our food from petrol station shops.

Often when people attempt this ride they use a "support car" to navigate and carry all their bike equipment, clothing etc.  But not us - all our gear is being loaded onto the bikes and we will no doubt be adding a few "bonus miles" as a result of inept map reading.

To make our suffering worthwhile, we have chosen to support a local charity that strives to make a real difference to the lives children and families through its research into the causes of fatal childhood brain tumours.  As alumni of the University of Nottingham, we are particularly keen to get behind the great work being undertaken at the Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre.   We hope that you will be too and we really appreciate your support both for us and our chosen charity.
