A cancer diagnosis is a game changer and is the start of a journey that is taken by the person who is diagnosed and by those family and friends who hold that person dear. Our own lives were altered forever in November 2013 when our beloved Tom was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, one of the deadliest kinds of brain cancer. The next two years were transformative as Tom underwent five brain operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy to combat a disease that we came to recognise was treatable but could not be cured. He died on 7th November 2015. His passing is deeply felt by all of us who miss his larger than life personality and loving nature.
We know now that 40% of brain tumours occur in people under 40 and only 1% of donations to cancer research goes to brain tumour research. Each day of research costs £2740. My family felt compelled to take action and we are so grateful to our incredible friends who have helped us with our target of a day's research for each of Tom's grandchildren ie £13,700. The Afternoon Tea in the garden last May raised a staggering £1200 and we plan to smash that figure this year.
Wear a Hat Day for Brain Tumour research is the charity's biggest fundraiser and this year will take place on 31st of March. A day of fun and frolics is planned by the McEntee family at home in Epsom and at outposts in various parts of the world. All will be wearing hats! We appreciate you have many demands on your pockets but please WEAR A HAT AND DONATE TO BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH.
