Story
I am running the London Marathon on the 23rd April and cycling the 213km (3488m accent) Dragon Ride in the Brecon Beacons on the 18th June to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
I've chosen to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK because of the recent death of my wife's close friend Marie King.
Marie died aged just 39. Following diagnosis of advanced pancreatic cancer in April 2022, Marie fought bravely for six months. She did so with courage and dignity, and protected those she loved. She did not want to leave her three young children (aged 7, 5 and 1), husband, sisters and parents.
I have only just secured this reserve place on the London Marathon so have just six weeks to hit my fundraising target of £2,500.
It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case. Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.
