Story
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. They do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. They also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond.
Anthony Nolan helped my Dad Peter and my family following my Dad being diagnosed with Leukaemia in December 2015.
In the same week my Dad was retiring from his post at St George's university, he received his diagnosis. This was a shocking and crushing diagnosis for him and us all, not only for the terrible timing but the fact that he had already been through cancer once before. We all knew there was a long path of treatment ahead for my Dad but we had no idea what was to come.
Through Anthony Nolan and the amazing work within the NHS, my Dad was able to be matched to a stem cell donor and had a successful transplant thus defeating the disease and now almost 3 years later is fighting fit.
I’m running the marathon to hopefully raise a substantial amount of money for Anthony Nolan to help continue the amazing work they do.
