Trip complete!
Slight change of plan from original mission and probably more of an achievement.
On Tues last week (28th August) at around 3pm I left Lisfannon beach on the banks of the Swilly estuary headed for Rathmullan (about 2 miles across the other side of the Swilly). Having crossed the Swilly I headed headed back across again, this time to Buncrana, racing (and beating!) the Ferry on the way. From there I kited North to Stragill beach and finally on around Dunree Head to Lenan beach. I arrived at Lenan at just before 5pm to a relieved family waiting there for me. Conditions were great on the way if somewhat windy and foreboding - around 20-25 knots and some big rolling waves around Dunree - probably 6ft and very surfable.
I estimate that I travelled well over 20miles on the trip in aid of the RNLI including around wild headland of Dunree fort and saw the RNLI guys returning from a call out (not for me!). Instead of Glashedy I went around another wild island, past some cliffs and sea caves on the way and enjoyed a truly special trip pushing myself hard and out at least a mile at points and in totally uncharted territory for me and kitesurfing.
Many many thanks to all those who have helped me fund raise for the RNLI - having met a number of the guys in Ireland and knowing what they do and how grateful they are has made it all very worthwhile.
