Story
Joshua my nephew sadly passed away last June at the age of 23. He was a much loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Joshua had battled with mental health issues since his late teens and life in last few years had taken some very difficult turns. Through this time his Mum, Dad and Sister quietly supported him in whichever way they could. Joshua was sectioned, supported and reintroduced to the outside world on more than one occasion and had around him a team of dedicated nurses and social workers who did their very best to ensure his safety and enhance his wellbeing. The family and Joshua received support and gained insight in to his challenges through various agencies and Rethink was one such agency that helped when the days felt very dark for all concerned. Rethink was also the charity that donations were given to in Joshua’s memory after the funeral. It is now the charity I would like to ask people to support as I face the challenge of running a marathon for the first time. As I train and encounter difficulties, I will draw strength from the memory of Joshua who in his short life encountered so many challenges; many of which he faced alone as he struggled with internal demons. I can see Joshua now in heaven strumming his guitar, relaxed and with the sun gently warming him. No challenging thoughts and everything being just right. We love you Joshua and miss you every day.
