Story

Donate some money. Nominate a great pop track. Help victims of domestic violence.

UPDATE:  Nominations are now closed. You can still donate, of course, but you can't pick tracks. Hope you're enjoying the polls!

The Coronavirus quarantine and lockdown is vital for public health but has also led to a horrifying spike in domestic violence and abuse, so fundraising for charities in this sector is more important than ever.

Why the People's Pop Poll? I've been distracting myself (and others) with polls on Twitter to find the best UK No.1 and No.2 singles. They've been popular and fun, so I decided to see if I could use the format to do a little good. For the next poll, I'm crowdsourcing entries.

Anyone donating to this fundraiser gets to nominate a song which will go into the poll and be subjected to the test of public opinion on Twitter. (NB: The main poll is now closed, but if you're donating nominate anyway and I'll work out something fun to do with the spillover)

If you want to see your favourite pop song pitted against other classics, donate, and nominate a song by emailing peoplespoppoll@gmail.com or naming one in your thankyou message.

There's no minimum donation as I know things are tight for everyone right now, and any donation at all is amazing. If you can only spare a quid or two, edit the amount on the donation page. But if you do donate £10 or more you get to nominate a second song!

Please share this if you can - it'll generate more money and the more people who nominate tracks, the more fun the eventual poll will be.

The poll will begin on May 5th but I'll leave the fundraiser open until the finals. (If by some extraordinary chance we get too many nominations then I'll do a second one.)

Thanks so, so much for donating. And for playing along, of course!
