Story
I have chosen to run the London Landmarks 2024 on behalf of the UK Sepsis Trust to raise funds and awareness in memory of my son, Oliver.
Oliver passed away surrounded by his family in January 2020 after a short battle with Sepsis. Oliver had been suffering with a nasty flu virus for a few days, but was then suddenly taken very ill overnight. Whilst we had heard of sepsis before, we did not know the devastating impact it could have on completely healthy individuals and could not believe it was happening to our fit & healthy 13 year old.
Oliver was a normal, cheeky, football mad teenager. He was my best friend and our family will never be the same again without Oli alongside us. Oliver battled fiercely for 4 days, overcoming the odds several times to give us all hope. Eventually sepsis overpowered him; and whilst I am not looking forward to running just over 13 miles, the pain and discomfort I will go through are nothing compared to what he had to endure.
Doing it for you Oli, love Dad xx
Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis. It raises awareness, and sparks the question: What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms. It also funds our vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
