Most people who read this will know who I am and at least a bit of my story. For those who don’t, I’m 30 years old, youngish, fit, healthy and happy. I have an incredible wife, a good career and a strong support network of loyal friends and loving family. Unfortunately, my life has recently been turned upside down by cancer.

I’ve already had surgery, which went well, but my particular type of cancer has a strong chance of recurrence if not treated. This means I have to have 2 rounds of ‘quite nasty’ chemo. I will lose my hair, I will feel sick, I will be tired - it’ll basically suck!

This has all happened very quickly and, I must admit, has been quite a shock. There have been tough times where I’ve needed support. At these times I’ve been able to turn to Maggie’s:

Our Centres are places to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; places where qualified experts provide emotional support; places to meet other people; places where you can simply sit quietly with a cup of tea.

Maggie’s is a place that anyone who has been affected by cancer can go to seek support. The day after my diagnosis the staff at Maggie’s helped me to pick myself up and deal with the news I’d received. There are a lot of people in situations a lot more serious than mine, with far more challenging prognoses. I can only imagine that in those situations, the benefit of the support Maggie’s provides is magnified exponentially.

This is why I have created this page, so that people can sponsor my chemotherapy, and give whatever they can to help those affected by cancer. This will not be an easy time in my life, but to raise a meaningful amount for an excellent charity will be a very positive aspect.

I’ve done a few bits and pieces of fundraising in my time, frankly for doing things I enjoy doing, such as half marathons. I definitely won’t enjoy this, so please dig a little deeper if you can!
