Story
Hello to our wonderful Together friends and family,
We were sad to have to postpone the physical Together this year because it’s a very special and treasured opportunity to have so many lovely people together in one place.
But as you know Together is more than just a BIG PARTY - it also has a BIG SOCIAL IMPACT on childrens live in the slums of Kampala, Uganda.
The funds you help to raise by buying tickets, using the café and bars and purchasing raffle tickets are a lifeline.
Every penny of profit helps to give a child a better future through education, helping their guardians to earn enough to feed the children
in her care or arming girls with skills that mean they won’t have to put
themselves at risk to survive.
When our friends at Purple Radio offered us the opportunity to stay connected and help raise much needed funds over the Together 2020 weekend we jumped for joy.
Providing support for those in desperate need during the pandemic and beyond
Whilst Uganda has been in lockdown, Awamu has been working with
community volunteers - inspiring, determined women who giving their time and energy to help vulnerable children and adults in their community. They've been working their socks off to ensure children are safe and don’t go hungry.
Your support is need now more than ever
This situation for the poorest families was made worse by the closing of marketplaces (affecting both access to food and income from their own small trading) and rising food prices.
We are expecting the Ugandan government to announce that schools will remain closed until January 21. This will be devastating news for children from an educational perspective but also because it will be another long period without the lunchtime meal they would be guaranteed if they were at school.
Stop children going hungry
Every day, the team identify more children in the community who are now suffering the effects malnutrition and lack of access to medical help – but our funds have been pushed to to their limits.
Awamu need your support to ensure the team can support children
to recover and thrive.
We hope connecting with friends on this special weekend will bring you all joy, relief and hope. The months ahead are going to continue to be challenging for everyone as emerge from the pandemic so we thank you from the bottom of my heart for any support you can give to help.
All our LOVE
Together, Awamu, Purple Radio x
