***FUNDRAISING FOR THE DISASTERS EMERGENCY COMMITTEE***
Hello, and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 9th May, I went to the to run in the Prague International Marathon with my friend Danny.
This was the first organised race I have ever taken part in, and I had major uncertainties over my ability to complete the distance in an respectable time - for this reason I was reluctant to ask for sponsorship until I felt I had justification for doing so!
Anyway, despite the apprehension, and armed with a waistpack stuffed to bursting point with painkillers and energy supplements, I successfully negotiated the cobbled streets and tram-tracks to complete the 26.2 miles in just under 3 hours 23 minutes. Now that it is done, and since it went well, I thought it would be nice to try to raise a bit of cash for charity - it will also give lasting and meaningful purpose to the lonely and frequently cold/wet training runs I have had to force myself into since January!
I have decided to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), a collective of 13 charitable agencies (including Oxfam, Save the Children and the British Red Cross - http://www.dec.org.uk/who_we_are/dec_members.html). The DEC works to coordinate the relief response to humanitarian disasters such as the earthquake, to maximise the speed, impact and efficiency of the relief effort. It is a fantastic organisation and I would be very grateful for any donation you can make to this excellent cause.
