Story
Raising money for Leukaemia Reseach is just a small way I can repay the amazing benefits we have received through Dad's treatment being successful a couple of years ago. He (and we) will always live in fear that it will come back, which inevitably it will, but in the meantime we are so grateful for every day, month, year that he is with us.
I have been doing triathlons for a couple of years but I am training hard as I have never done this one which is the one of the largest Sprint distance events in the world. For those who are not familar, 'Sprint' is a little misleading as the swim is 750m in a lake, 20km of cycling around the grounds and then a 5km run. I'm hoping to do it in around 1 hour and 30mins and come in the top half of my old man's age group. If you wanted to set me a challenge to raise more money I'd be happy to take me up? e.g. an extra amount for every minute under 1:30 / a bonus if I come in the top 40% or top third of my age group??
Please give as generously as you can.
Best wishes and thank you for considering this very worthwhile cause.
Update - had to increase the target amount to £1000 as DC families, friends and my family are clearly very taken by this cause. Many thanks to all! So generous.
Second update - just about to go to the race tomorrow and have been doing 8 hours of decorating - very stiff shoulders and standing on a ladder can't have done much for my preparation!
Here is third update -
I finished - just! Really enjoyed a lovely day in the sun but my legs really didn't work on the run! Swim was lovely and ticked around in a normal time. The bike was brilliant - though the hills proved a little pain but it was very successful (nearly top 10%) but then paid for it on the run as I cramped and hobbled my away around to my slowest run ever. Though, actually, I blame the decorating! Overall 878 out of nearly 4000 was good (in the top quarter and top third in my age group) but lots to work on and think about for next year.
