Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

2020 is designated as the year of the Nurse and the Midwife, and 12th May 2020 would have been the formal celebrations for the 200th anniversary celebration of Florence Nightingale's birth.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, unfortunately the formal celebrations that would have taken place have had to be cancelled. As part of the celebrations Joint Hospital Group South (my military unit) were due to undertake a large charity event. Given the constraints with social distancing the Unit has set a challenge of completing 200 repetitions of an exercise everyday from 12 May - 12 Jun 2020.

I've decided to raise the stakes and on 11 May I will undertake a 10 hour charity event where I will complete 200 reps of an exercise (of your choosing- more to follow) every hour on the hour until I hit 2000 total reps.

2020 has been a strange year for all of us, dividing us in many ways but bringing us closer to together to those we truly care about. In this time I'm sure I'm not the only one who is unbelievably grateful for our NHS providing the glue that has held the country together. Working next to Doctors, Nurses and other clinicians in my role at JHG South, it's amazing to hear of their cheerfulness, dedication and humility in this time of national crisis. I'm sure you will echo my sincere thanks for all the NHS staff up and down the country that have selflessly gone about their jobs in the face of a virus that has sadly claimed so many lives.

I am therefore raising money for the Florence Nightingale Foundation in honour of the 200th anniversary of her birth. The foundation is a charity organisation in the United Kingdom that provides scholarships to nurses, midwives and other health professionals while serving as a living memorial of the work of Florence Nightingale. The Foundation is a voice for nursing across the UK. It works to improve patient care in the UK by extending scholars skills and knowledge and promoting innovation in practice. It achieves this through educational programmes, leadership development and clinical nursing research involvement, including the development of the Florence Nightingale Foundation Chairs in Clinical Nursing Practice Research.

I ask you to donate to a foundation that provides the cornerstone for our NHS to stay at the forefront of Health care. At this time where we owe so much to our NHS staff, I'm proud to support a foundation that will afford learning and development opportunities to create tomorrow's clinical leaders.

So please donate anything you can spare for this great cause. When you donate please put in the comments the exercise that you would like me to undertake for a given hour. On the day I will pull the exercises out of a hat at random to see what I will be doing for that hour, every hour, for the full 10 hours. You can make the exercise as easy or as hard as you like (fully expecting to have to do 2000 burpees on the day!). Please bear in mind at the moment with current guidelines the exercises generally need to be bodyweight without the use of equipment.

For JHG South pers, I would love for as many of you to get involved as possible*. To get involved please donate and either turn up for as much or as little of the day as you can, or suggest an exercise and help put a PTI in the pain cave for 10 hours! More details to follow.

Thank you in advance.
