Story
A Race To Nowhere is a cycle race with a difference to raise money for The New Normal Charity. The New Normal is a volunteer-led, peer-to-peer support charity offering free services connecting people through their grief and mental health.
Here is why our team is taking part:
Helena - The New Normal provided invaluable support in the months following the suicide of a close friend and then the death of my Mum. The space to be with others going through the same thing and understanding the pain I was experiencing helped me to feel less alone. Usually I ride about 1000km a month, this time I'm targeting 2000km to really push myself and to hopefully raise plenty for this amazing cause!
Louise - I have seen the brilliant support that TNN has provided to some of my friends who have sadly experienced grief, I'm so grateful for them providing the space for them to be supported by those who have shared similar experiences. Recently I have not been riding very much at all but I am going to try and ride 1000km, which I think may well be my biggest month yet.
Daisy - It's hard for me to put into words what charity's like TNN mean for me. I've sadly lost a few loved ones in a short space of time and the support I received from my sessions with TNN or even just Ben reaching out meant I didn't feel alone with my grief. This year I found my motivation for getting out on the bike pretty much at zero so I'm pushing myself out of my comfort zone and what better cause to do it for.
James - I recognise the importance of having people to talk to during times of grief and think peer to peer support is a great way to connect people and help guide them through difficult times in life. I will be aiming to ride 2000km whilst fundraising.
Marta - TNN and the support it offers young people through grief and other mental struggles has been incredible for some of my friends and was a charity close to the heart of a dear friend who died from suicide. United by our love of cycling it seems fitting to now be fundraising for this incredible cause whilst riding my bike. I'm currently out of action with an infection, so really hoping to be able to clock up enough kms once June begins.
