Story
On Sunday 21 October 2018, I will be running the Detroit Marathon in memory of one of my closest friends, Dave Holman, who we tragically lost in 2016 in a road traffic accident. Dave is greatly missed by his family, his many friends and all who knew him.
This will be my first ever marathon (!) and I will be running alongside my good friend Ian Peacock who introduced me to Dave many years ago. I will be running in support of Tiny Steps - the charity close to Dave's heart.
Tiny Steps was set up by Martin and Laura Clifton in October 2013 following the birth of their first child, Connie, who was born with severe global delays, profound learning difficulties, and developed West Syndrome.
Martin and Laura found that there was a significant lack of provision in terms of finding a location where Connie could thrive and enjoy meaningful activities in an environment that suited her needs. The same rule applied in terms of finding a location where parents and families in a similar position could sit and discuss their challenges with like-minded people.
As a result, Tiny Steps’ aim is to provide a sensory play area and social cafe for children and young people with additional needs and their families in the Northwich/Winsford area of Cheshire West and Chester.
This community facility will be a place to relax, with a calming environment with many features for children to help to develop their senses and have fun.
