Story
As you will know Adam, my son, was dignosed with High Functioning Autism at the age of 3. Once he was dignosed I was at a loss of how to help him, until I found Daisy Chain. Daisy Chain were excellent at supporting me and pointing me in the right direction, both for Adam and our family.
They help to support the adults as much as the children, by giving advice, listening and holding meeting, so that parents can get together and share their stories and talk about what works for their children. During the school holidays, my Daughter Abbie, Adam and I love to go to Daisy Chain - it has everything Adam loves, animals, bikes, a park, a maze and amazing volunteer staff who give up their time to entertain our special children and siblings. In fact we are going their today (12th April), as their are 3 Middlesbrough Footballl Players coming for a visit.
Adam loves trains also and Daisy Chain has a train track which runs alongside the farm - what more could he ask for?
DAISY CHAIN
Here is a summary of what Daisy Chain has to offer Autisic children and their families, but for more information, click on the link http://www.daisychainproject.co.uk/AboutUs,
Daisy Chain is a unique charity established to address the needs of both children with autism and their families. We do this through providing a range of services and activities from the 5.5-acre farm in Stockton-on-Tees where we are based.
Autism is much more common than most people think. There are over half a million people in the UK with autism - that's around 1 in 100 people.
Around 2.3 million people are affected by autism. This includes family members and professionals involved in the care and support of people with autism.
People with autism have said that the world, to them, is a mass of people, places and events that they struggle to make sense of, and which can cause them considerable anxiety. In particular, understanding and relating to other people, and taking part in everyday family and social life may be harder for them.
At Daisy Chain our vision is to provide a range of support measures that take account of the needs of the whole family rather than just the child who has autism because autism has such a big impact on the whole family. We support parents, carers and siblings too through the provision of respite care and the opportunity to talk with other parents and siblings in the same position as themselves.
