Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi,
On the 19th September I shall be attempting to complete the Great North Run, in aid if the National Autistic Society.
I have chosen to run for the NAS because my daughter Michelle is autistic, she also has epilepsy and learning difficulties.
Michelle is now 23 but had a relitavely late diagnosis at the age of 12, but when we had it confirmed it was like putting together the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Michelle thrives on routines, has certain obsessions and likes to know what is happening all the time because it helps her to feel safe in a confusing and sometimes scary world.
Michelle can talk but finds social interaction very difficullt, so quite often she chooses not to unless she knows the person well. She is also extemely sensitive to noise and touch which makes going to public places, doctors, dentists, opticians etc a very anxious time for her.
People on the Autistic spectrum have said the world to them is a mass of people, places and events which they struggle to make sense of, which can cause great anxiety.
The Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people with Autism. It was founded in 1962 by a group of parents who were passionate about ensuring a better future for their children. They provide a wide range of support, information and advice to 100,000 people each year in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Please help me raise funds for this very worthwhile charity, to help raise awareness, and provide support for people like my daughter, and to accept difference, not indifference.
Thank you xx
